Balance
In my role as a coach one of the things
I do is work with my clients to help them to ensure they are clear about their
goals. Along with this I always
emphasize how important it is to keep an eye on balance while pursuing those
goals. My recent trip to Thailand was all about balance. From a balance perspective this was a time
for me where I could come out of my daily routine and yet still be within it
because I had clients and another coach with me - I could be in that coaching realm and still be in balance with
the other pieces in my life.
I loved having time with my daughter,
Jenny. She is 20 years old now and is a young woman who goes to college, has a
job and a boyfriend and a social life that is full and busy. Combined with my busy schedule we don’t
have a lot of one-on-one time here at home.
For the two weeks that we were in Thailand together, I got to spend time
with this incredible young woman and get to know her in many ways I’ve never
know her before. I shared the
experience of a lifetime with her and had the opportunity to talk about what it
meant to her, what she got from it and what I was getting from it as well. I got a chance to see her poise, her
personality, her gifts and her beauty up close. I got to see how these traits were affecting others. I got to see how they were affecting me.
Beyond the lessons that a foreign land
and culture can teach us was a profound lesson about how important my family
relationships are in my life. And how
very important it is to protect the sacred balance of those relationships with
the other aspects of our lives. It truly gave me the lesson that of all things
that are important in my life she showed me how important my children and my
family are. Not that I ever lost sight
of that but it was great to have it put in the forefront for such a
concentrated period of time while we were away together.
Have you looked at the balance in your
life lately? Is there one area that’s
being neglected? How is your health?
Your career? Your financial situation? Your relationships with friends, family
and your significant other? Your fun
and recreation? Your physical
environment? Your personal growth? Is it time to focus on one of these
areas? Which one or ones would you
choose to focus on? What can you do
today or this week to raise your satisfaction with that part of your life?
Inspirational Quote of the Month
“Just as your car runs more smoothly and
requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect
alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals,
and values are in balance.” Brian Tracy
Recommended Reading
Last month I recommended “The Saint the
Surfer and the CEO” by Robin Sharma. I
have received feedback from subscribers who told me how much they got from this
book and how much they appreciated it.
If you haven’t read it yet I encourage you to do so!
The book I’d like to recommend this
month is "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. A short and simple book with a powerful
message. The four powerful agreements
that he recommends we make with ourselves to gain personal freedom are: 1. To be impeccable with our word. 2. To not take anything personally. 3. To not make assumptions. 4. To always do our best. Without telling you any more I encourage
you to read this gem.
