Overwhelm!

http://img.constantcontact.com/letters/images/spacer.gif

I have just experienced one of the most magical months of my Coaching Career and perhaps one of the most magical months of my life. What has made the month so incredible is the number of people I have met and the incredible place that I went to meet them. It has been a month of getting back together with old friends and meeting so many new ones (as the photo above shows). It started with a trip to Hawaii and the magic of that trip was enhanced by the fact that Rose was with me. Many of you will know that in the front of my journal I have a list of 118 things that I would like to do, have or be before I die. Being in Hawaii with Rose was number 11. Hawaii was wonderful. I met my new club leaders' mastermind group in person. I had a full slate of coaching session. When I flew back to Vancouver I spoke on two consecutive days to a large conference at the convention center. Two days after that I flew to Boca Raton Florida, stayed at a wonderful resort and addressed another conference. That evening I flew to Calgary, Alberta and had four days of work with clubs in beautiful surroundings like Banff. I truly felt blessed.

Then I got back to the office with some of the disorganization that I left, three weeks of new stuff on my desk, 250 e-mails after the spam was eliminated, telephone messages to answer, new programs to organize and my coaching clients to connect with and coach. Don't forget the article deadlines and volunteer work that needs to be done.

I truly love what I do and it is usually very balanced and organized and healthy but here is a time when it just seemed a little overwhelming. Have you been there?

I think we all have. I hear I am overwhelmed from my clients often.

Here are some thoughts on overwhelm.

1) Take accountability for the fact you had a part in creating it.
2) Consider why you have put so much in to your life.
3) How can you plan to minimize the overwhelm that you know you are creating?
4) What can you delegate?
5) What can you eliminate?
6) Change your focus!
7) How can you look at all the things you have to do (seemingly thousands) and focus on the 3 or 4 things that are worthy of your time today?
8) How can you prioritize what is there into what needs to be done now, what needs to be done in time, what needs to be done by others and what never needs to be done?
9) Choose not to be overwhelmed!
10) Be thankful for all the things you have in your life.

When I lost my job as a club manager I was dreaming of a life that was balanced and exciting and fulfilling and I truly have that now. But on those occasions where I feel a little overwhelmed I remember that I don't want to stay there for long but I am grateful for opportunity to have so many wonderful things in my life.

Site of Coaching in HawaiiI wanted to share with you this beautiful photo of the site of my first coaching session in Hawaii.

It was in a park by the ocean. It was cool and shady on a hot sunny day. My client and I could hear the ocean and the sounds of laughter and conversation in the distance. It was a beautiful place for a wonderful conversation.

The book I want to recommend this month is:

The Voice of Knowledge by Don Miguel Ruiz

In The Voice of Knowledge, Miguel Ruiz reminds us of a profound and simple truth: The only way to end our emotional suffering and restore our joy in living is to stop believing in lies - mainly about ourselves. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, this breakthrough book shows us how to recover our faith in the truth and return to our own common sense.

Have you ever gone to a seminar, got all pumped up, left with big plans to change your life only to find yourself slipping right back into old habits?

You are not alone. According to surveys, only 10% of personal development books ever get read past the second chapter and even less ever get implemented. "Why?" you ask. It is one thing to "Know what to do"... and something entirely different to get yourself to "Do what you know".

The Happy Healthy
We*althy Game does just that. Combining the best of both seminars and coaching, the structure is that of an actual game with rules, prizes, players, teammates, coaches, and competition. It takes nine weeks to play the game and we play it virtually, over the telephone on a bridge line. The Happy Healthy We*althy Game is an experience that will help you set your own goals, measure your achievements before and after the 90-day game, and provide you with tools to produce sustainable results.
