Each month when I write my newsletter I hope my message
connects with the reader, you, in some helpful way. I often receive
messages that I have written something that a particular reader needed to
hear. Obviously I don't know what individual readers would like me to
write about. Please do let me know if you have any requests or ideas.
Often the topics come from what is going on in my life when
my assistant Carolyn reminds me that it is newsletter time. As she
reminds me this month I am experiencing a time of celebration.
I am writing this on a flight to Vancouver. I am going home
for a few days before Rose and I fly off to Ireland to celebrate our 25th
wedding anniversary. We are so excited about visiting a beautiful part of
the world, but I think we are both more excited about celebrating a
significant landmark.
When I am coaching people or speaking to groups of people I
often talk about the importance of celebrating. Celebrating gives people
energy. If you understand the importance of creating energy, storing
energy and expending energy in an efficient way, you will understand how
celebration plays a role in the process.
In major league sports like baseball, a team celebrates the end of the
year when they have won the World Series. They also celebrate when they
win a league championship or a game for that matter. They celebrate a
great play, a hit or when their pitcher strikes someone out. The point is
that the big celebration at the end of the year is made up of a
culmination of smaller celebrations throughout the year. Each small
celebration gives them energy. The energy comes from focusing on the
things that are working.
Rose and I make a point of celebrating each day.
How do you celebrate?
How do you celebrate personally?
How do you celebrate in your organization?
Professionally, Shelley MacDougall and I are celebrating the
launch of our Extraordinary Leader Program. We are so excited after one
month to see what happens when extraordinary leaders come together to
learn about and enhance their leadership skills. We are celebrating the
creation of something that can make a difference. We are celebrating as
new leaders join the program. We are celebrating the extraordinary
visions and accomplishments of the participants. We are celebrating the
leaders at all levels that are embracing the concept of being
extraordinary. Celebrate.
