Dear Kevin,
Welcome to this month's

Do You Have Too
Many Programs Running?
|
|
I remember a few years ago my computer wasn't working well
and I called my computer expert in to take a look at it. It was getting
close to time for an upgrade but when he looked at it he said, Well for
one thing you have got a lot of programs running. The old computer was limited
in its capacity and as I was asking it to do one thing is was doing five
or six other things at the same time and it wasn't working.
In my coaching practice, and in my Happy Healthy
Wealthy Games, I see people who have too many programs running. There are
two conclusions that jump out at me when I see it happening. The first is
they have too many programs running to do any of them as brilliantly as
they potentially can. The second lesson is that they have some programs
running that are not serving them. Old programs are hard to get rid of.
Here are two lessons from the game.
We challenge people to simplify and eliminate. If you have heard of
Pareto's Law or the 80/20 rule you will know that 80% of our results come
from 20% of our actions. It is efficient to get clear on the 20% that are
going to make a difference and focus on them. The question is what kinds
of things can you simplify or eliminate that move you toward your goals?
Some people try it out by cleaning out a closet or organizing their
office. They find they are energized afterward or more accurately not
losing as much energy to the chaos. I recently hear people comparing the
number of e- mails in their in-box. In this particular discussion the
winner or loser, depending on how you look at it, had over 300 e- mails.
After I heard it I had a goal of having zero e-mails in my in-box. It is
great to have zero and when two or three come in you have the ability to
deal with them right away. I hope you will consider simplifying and
eliminating.
The second lesson is to question the programming. We see
people who are trying to get their bodies to an ideal weight but have
programs or beliefs that are running in opposition to their goal. They
say things like, I have always been heavy, I have tried and tried but it
never works, or I love food too much as if no matter what they do they
are doomed to failure. Sometimes it is more subtle. Men and women that
want to have more balance, want to have better health, want to have more
time with their families often have a program running that works against
them. It may be a belief that they have to work 70 hours a week to be successful
or that they need to be seen by everyone so they have to be at work all
the time. However, we get to question our programming. It is not whether
the program is true or false that is important. It is important to see if
it is serving you.

Wealthy game.

Golf Tournament!
|
|
Would you like to golf with your coach? (I realize this newsletter
goes out to people around North America and this will probably be of
interest to people in the Vancouver area only but here it is.)
As you may know Rose and I have three Children aged 23, 22
and 19. My daughter Jenny had a friend named Trevor Buck who drowned
almost four years ago. To pay tribute to Trevor and his family Jenny
organized a memorial golf tournament. This year will be the fourth one.
It is a tournament that is played on a par 3 golf course. Most holes are
about 100 yards the longest is 165 yards. You don't have to be a great
golfer. The entry fee is low, the food served afterwards consists of
burgers and hot dogs and salads. Last year it raised $1,500 that was
donated to the Trevor Buck Memorial Scholarship fund. This year's tournament
is on Sunday, May 7th at Sunshine Woods Golf Course.
If you would like to play in or support this tournament in
any way, please contact Jennifer
MacDonald.

Happy Healthy We*althy
|
|
Have you ever gone to a seminar, got all pumped up, left
with big plans to change your life only to find yourself slipping right
back into old habits?
You are not alone. According to surveys, only 10% of
personal development books ever get read past the second chapter and even
less ever get implemented. "Why?" you ask. It is one thing to
"Know what to do"... and something entirely different to get
yourself to "Do what you know".
The Happy Healthy
We*althy Game does just that. Combining the best of both seminars and
coaching, the structure is that of an actual game with rules, prizes,
players, teammates, coaches, and competition. It takes nine weeks to play
the game and we play it virtually, over the telephone on a bridge line.
The Happy Healthy
We*althy Game is an experience that will help you set your own goals,
measure your achievements before and after the 90-day game, and provide
you with tools to produce sustainable results.
Our next game begins on May 2. Click here
