we touched on in the last few months. This month we are looking at
the letter "A" for Accountable for Attitude.

| STARs are Accountable for Their
Attitude |

 In September's newsletter, we talked about the
attributes of a STAR. We define a STAR as someone who shines
brilliantly in their field of endeavour. They are people who
perform a skill or exhibit a characteristic that we can look
at and appreciate that it is being done at a high
level.
We use the "A" in STAR to represent Accountable
for Their Attitude which means that STARs:
-don't play the
victim
-know that attitude affects energy
-enjoy
life
-show gratitude
-know that attitude is contagious.
Being accountable for our attitude requires that we take
responsibility for ourselves and our lives. It requires that
we stand up and take ownership for each of the challenges and
problems in our lives. When we don't do this, when we play the
victim in a situation or in our lives, we diminish ourselves
unnecessarily.
Is someone picking on you? Is there a difficulty or
challenge you are experiencing that causes you to bemoan your
lot in life? If and when you stand up and take responsibility
for these challenges you not only raise your standard of
behaviour but you raise the bar for others - those who work
for you and with you and those in your personal life as
well.
The good news about life is that we each get to
decide what we think about any given situation. Is it a
tragedy or an opportunity? The choice for one or the other is
up to you. You can use your attitude and thinking to change
the situations you are in.
Use the following questions and reflections to observe your
attitude. You may find some places in your life where your
attitude could be shifted to support, rather than diminsh,
you:
List some times when you've looked for others to
blame.
How did you create the circumstances (good or
bad) that you are in?
Where in your life can you take
accountability that you haven't before?
List some times
when your energy was low and a shift in thinking immediately
energized you.
List three of the most enjoyable moments
in your life.
What made these moments so
enjoyable?
How can you create that joy every
day?
List 10 things you are grateful for.

If ever there was anyone who deserved to have a
less-than-exemplary attitude it is Christopher Reeve; actor,
husband, equestrian and quadrapalegic. However Reeve has
recognized the importance of his attitude in determining the
quality of his life, now that he is bound to his wheel chair.
Reeve says, So many of our dreams at first seem
impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we
summon the will, they soon become inevitable. If we can
conquer outer space, we can conquer inner space too.
